Gardman make various 'quality levels' of bird feeder and the heavy duty feeders are definitely worth the money.
This one is a thistle/niger seed feeder that has small holes for access to the seeds. It is ideally suited for birds such as the Goldfinch. It takes a while for them to find it, but once they do you will get groups of them spending large chunks of the day sitting there gorging on the seeds. Winter 2010 saw a queue of Goldfinch waiting to get access to the feeder.
The only negative I can think of is that the birds tend to scatter the thistle or niger seeds on the ground near to the feeder, so some weeding might be needed!
Overall a tough feeder, mine is 5 years old now, that will hopefully attract range of birds to your garden that aren't normally attracted to other more common feeders.
